What is CO₂ laser treatment?

CO2 Laser Treatment is an advanced, non-invasive skin resurfacing technology designed to treat many skin concerns.

we offer CO2 fractional resurfacing to rejuvenate your skin, addressing common issues like wrinkles, fine lines, sun-damaged skin, age spots, and acne scars. This procedure uses fractional CO2 laser technology to target specific skin concerns, dramatically improving skin tone, texture, and overall radiance.

CO2 lasers laser is a more advanced, fractional laser system. This allows it to provide more precise, targeted treatment with faster healing times and less discomfort than traditional CO2 lasers.

A consultation with our expert dermatologist, Dr Sharief , ensures that your treatment is tailored to your unique skin concerns, giving you smoother, younger-looking skin with long-lasting results.

How Does CO2 Laser Resurfacing Work?

Our fractional laser targets the deeper layers of your skin using dual-depth laser technology. The laser creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing response and encouraging the production of fresh collagen. This process not only smoothens the surface but also tightens the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and sun damage.

At Woodstock SKin Clinic, we use CO2 fractional laser technology is a great treatment for those patients who are suffering from severe sun damage, uneven skin tones and texture, deeper wrinkles as well as scars.

CO2 LASER PRE- TREATMENT CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Hydrate – we recommend that for seven days pre-treatment you moisturise skin in the morning and evening, and drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to completely hydrate your skin and optimise treatment results.
  2. You may be provided with an antiviral prophylaxis 3-4 days prior to the procedure if you have a history of Herpes Simplex to avoid an outbreak.
  3. Topical retinoid therapy should be discontinued 7 days prior to treatment.
  4. Avoid any prolonged exposure to the sun, if you must be in the sun use a sunscreen of at least SPF 30+.
  5. Remove all substances from the intended treatment area, including topical anaesthetics, hairspray, gel, makeup, lotions, deodorants, self-tanning products and ointments. Do not use flammable products in the vicinity of the laser.
  6. Do not use an alcohol-based cleanser as this removes moisture from the skin.
  7. Take 2 Paracetamol or Ibuprofen tablets, one hour before or after the procedure if desired to reduce post-laser burning pain.

CO2 LASER POST- TREATMENT CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Immediately after treatment, most patients will experience a clinical endpoint of redness (for 5-7 days), however for more aggressive treatments this may last longer.
After the second day, skin will appear as an exaggerated tan.

Skin will begin to flake at 5-7 days on the face and neck;
7-10 days for the chest; and 10-14 for the hands.
You will notice a yellowish crust appearing on your skin as of day 2. This has to be wiped, clean twice per day. You will have some swelling and a sunburn feeling on some parts of your face, or all your face for 3-4 days after laser treatment and this is normal if not accompanied with pain or fever.

Post care guidelines:

  1. Stay in a cool place AWAYfrom direct sunlight for the duration of healing of your skin.
  2. For the first 3 days post procedure, cleanse your face twice daily with vinegar sooks (1tsp of white distilled vinegar in 1 cup of water), wipe gently with a soft gauze twice daily with this solution to remove crusts and old stuck ointment.
  3. If prescribed a topical antibiotic apply that twice daily for 4 days post laser.
  4. Apply Aquaphor or Vaseline petroleum jelly multiple times a day as needed to keep the skin hydrated during the healing process.
  5. When you bathe or shower do not scrub the treated area, treat it gently and avoid very hot water. IT IS ADVISABLE NOT TO WASH THE AREA THE SAME DAY OF TREATMENT.
  6. Use high SPF sunscreen at least 30 from day one to avoid hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin).
  7. If prescribed the antiviral tablets make sure you finish the course of treatment and take all the prescribed tablets even if you do not develop a cold sore.
  8. DO NOTat any time pick at the scabs or crusts that form as this might lead to delayed healing and possibly infection and scarring. Treat your skin very gently. You most gently wipe them with above mentioned solution (see item 2).
  9. Stay away from direct heat and avoid vigorous exercise.
  10. Men should avoid shaving until skin has completely shed.
  1. Drink plenty of water (8 glasses a day) to stay hydrated and sleep on a high pillow the first day to avoid swelling.

Frequently asked questions

If you suffer from wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, acne scars, or uneven skin texture, you could benefit from CO2 laser treatment.
This treatment suits all skin types and can target various areas, including the face, neck, décolleté, and even the hands. A consultation will assess your skin’s suitability for treatment, ensuring you get the best possible results.

During your treatment:
– Topical anaesthesia will be applied to minimise any discomfort.
– The CO2 laser will target problem areas, and you may feel a warm sensation as the laser works.
– The treatment lasts around 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
– Your skin will feel sunburned for a few days, followed by redness and peeling as new, healthier skin emerges.

Generally, you will see a difference after only one treatment. In the days after the treatment, your skin will gradually look softer, smoother and with less unwanted pigmentation. The fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and uneven texture will start to show improvement. However, multiple sessions are usually recommended for optimal results.

CO2 laser resurfacing provides long-lasting results, with effects that can last for several years when paired with proper post-treatment care. Many patients notice significant improvements in skin texture and tone within a few weeks. Factors such as age, lifestyle, and skincare routine will influence how long the results last.

We offer a wide range of dermatology treatments, including acne care, psoriasis management, skin cancer screening, cosmetic procedures like Botox etc.
